About Aion Health SL

Definitions
Health: The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as a complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being, in which an individual realizes their potential and can cope with the normal stresses of life.

Maternal Mortality: Maternal mortality is the death of a woman during or soon after childbirth. It is defined in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)as the death that occurs within 42 days after termination of pregnancy, due to any cause related to or not related to pregnancy.

Importance
Good health is important for individuals, communities, and countries. In Sierra Leone, maternal and infant mortality remain significant challenges, particularly due to issues such as postpartum hemorrhage, preterm delivery, and nutritional deficiencies.

These mortality rates can have long-term consequences for a country's economy and social development. Improving access to healthcare, increasing awareness and education, and promoting healthy behaviors can all contribute to reducing maternal and infant mortality in Sierra Leone.

Aion Health: Advancing Resilient and Innovative Healthcare for Sierra Leone’s Mothers and Children

Aion Health's journey is a testament to resilience and innovation, driven by the urgent need to address Sierra Leone's alarming rates of maternal and infant mortality. Founded by Abubakarr Sidique Konneh, the organization initially explored drone-based medical delivery solutions before pivoting to the deployment of mobile medical clinics, marking a pivotal shift in strategy. In a landmark virtual meeting on December 19th, 2021, Aion Health's dedicated team, including Konneh and colleagues committed to providing free, high-quality medical care to vulnerable and remote communities lacking access and resources.

Their mission goes beyond mere healthcare provision; they aspire to uplift the overall well-being of these underserved communities. Looking forward, Aion Health is embracing the future of digital health, leveraging tools like secure video call apps such as Dokta and data analysis platforms like R and Power BI to enhance their reach and effectiveness.

Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, Aion Health integrates Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs into their services, amplifying their impact and fostering healthier communities. Building strong relationships with local leaders, including mayors, district medical officers, and traditional chiefs, enables Aion Health to tailor their services to local healthcare priorities and gain access to remote areas. Future collaborations with organizations like Turning Trust and the German Ambassador's office further solidify Aion Health's commitment to innovation and partnership-driven solutions. In essence, Aion Health's narrative is one of continuous adaptation, fueled by a steadfast commitment to improving healthcare outcomes for mothers and children in Sierra Leone. Through mobile clinics, digital health initiatives, WASH programs, and strategic

tnerships, they stand as champions for a healthier future in the face of daunting challenges.
